Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 may be one of the best budget devices available, but there’s a caveat. The phone does not support HD content from Netflix and a whole host of other streaming sites thanks to the missing the Widevine L1 DRM. This also applied to a bunch of other Xiaomi devices, but its absence was one of the only things holding the Pocophone F1 back from greatness.
Gizchina News of the week
Thankfully, Xiaomi are finally rectifying the issue, working with Qualcomm and Google to achieve a solution. The company also claims they’ll try to release a beta for the Pocophone F1 before the end of year. With this, the Pocophone F1 will finally be able to stream content from apps like Netflix, Amazon Video, Hulu, and BBC in HD resolutions or greater.
On a different note, Xiaomi haven’t announced how the fix will be distributed to customers. The company will either have to physically go to Xiaomi’s stores for the update or receive an OTA update that will solve the issue. Until then, we’re going to have to wait until Xiaomi actually releases the update, which could still take some time. If you have a Pocophone F1, tell us your thoughts down in the comments below!
