Yesterday, Xiaomi announced its highly anticipated Mi MIX 3 with a sliding design and an excellent camera module. Xiaomi has focused especially on the quality of its camera, which has allowed it to obtain 103 points in the DxOmark classification.
With this score, the camera of the Mi MIX 3 exceeds the scores of Apple iPhone X, Huawei P20 and comes on the same level of the Samsung Galaxy Note 9 and HTC U 12+. This great improvement has been achieved by adjusting the camera modules to obtain better performance.
Xiaomi co-founder, Lei Jun, revealed that the Mi MIX 3 camera module is the same as Mi 8 and Mi Mix 2S, but software optimizations have enabled performance to be superior to that of predecessors.
The Xiaomi Mi Mix 3 carries a combination of dual 12 megapixel cameras with a Sony IMX 363 CMOS sensor and a Samsung S5K3M3 sensor, the same as the Xiaomi 8 and Mi Mix 2S.

In this regard, Lei Jun has asked Xiaomi’s research and development teams for an update of both Mi Mix 2S and Mi 8 to optimize their camera modules.
The camera of Mi MIX 3 uses exactly the same hardware as the Mi 8 / Mi MIX 2S. Focusing on the continuous optimization of the software algorithms and the adjustment of the camera, it has achieved very significant results. The DxOMark evaluation results are now among the first three in the world!
Currently, the Xiaomi Mi Mix 2S has 97 points while Mi 8 has 99 points in DxOmark. We hope that with the software update they will improve up to the level of the Mi MIX 3.
Xiaomi has experienced a great development in the quality of its cameras after creating a department dedicated to the development and research of mobile camera units. The main objective of the department is to improve the photography quality and integrate the AI into the camera modules.
