Today, as scheduled, Apple released its fourth quarter financial results for the 2018 fiscal year, the company’s revenue of $62.9 billion is higher than Wall Street’s predicted $61.57 billion.
Apple’s financial report shows that iPhone shipments in the fourth quarter of this year were 46.9 million units, which was not much different from the 46.677 million units in the same period last year, but the average selling price of the iPhone was much higher. The average price of the iPhone in the Q4 this year was $793, compared to $618 last year. The average selling price increase was mainly affected by the iPhone XS and iPhone XS Max.
For the iPad, this year’s Q4 revenue was $4.1 billion, with sales of 9.69 million units, compared with $4.8 billion and 10.3 million units in the same period last year. On the Mac side, the Q4 revenue was $7.4 billion this year, with sales of 5.299 million units, compared with $7.2 billion in the same period last year and 5.4 million units. Other products including the Apple Watch brought $4.234 billion.

The service sector, including iCloud, Apple Music and Apple Store, contributed nearly $10 billion in revenue this quarter, compared to $8.5 billion in the same period last year.
According to Apple’s earnings report, 61% of Apple’s revenue this year comes from the international market. Among them, the strongest income growth was in Japan, up 34% year-on-year. The overall growth in the Asia-Pacific region was 22%, and the Americas, China, and Europe grew 16%-19%.
However, this may be the last official sales data for the iPhone and iPad. In the fourth-quarter conference call, Apple CFO Luca Maestri announced that from the first quarter of FY 2019, Apple will no longer announce sales of iPhone, iPad, and Mac in its quarterly earnings data.
Mestri said that Apple does not believe that 90-day equipment sales can reflect the company’s business potential. At the same time, Apple also plans to rename the “Other Products” category in the earnings report to ‘Wearables, Home, and Accessories’ including the Apple Watch, Apple TV, AirPods, HomePods and Beats headsets.
