In addition to the iPhone X display module replacement program for touch issues, Apple announced a new 13-inch MacBook Pro (no touch bar) SSD service plan on Saturday. Apple and its authorized service providers will review the eligible device hard drives for free. Apple has confirmed that there are problems with the few 128 GB and 256 GB solid state drives (SSDs) used in 13-inch MacBook Pro (no touch bar) devices, which can result in data loss and hard drive failure. The 13-inch MacBook Pro with the affected hard drive was sold between June 2017 and June 2018.

Users of the MacBook Pro (13-inch, 2017, Two Thunderbolt 3 ports) can submit their serial number on the service plan’s website to determine if the device meets the conditions of the program. Apple said the plan does not affect the 13-inch MacBook Pro with touch bar or the earlier 13-inch MacBook Pro. Apple reminds users to fully back up device data because the hard drive is erased during the repair process. The repair will pass through the following steps
– A technician will run a utility to update the hard drive firmware, which takes about an hour or shorter
– The 13-inch MacBook Pro will get a reinstalled macOS
– After the repair is complete, you need to recover the data from the backup.
If there is any damage that may interfere with the repair of the hard drive, the user will have to fix that issue which may incur additional costs. If you have previously paid for a 13-inch MacBook Pro hard drive problem, you can contact Apple for a refund.
