Sharp made a smartphone with two screen notches

Last year, Sharp released the Aquos R Compact, a smartphone with a small notch for the front camera on the top edge and a huge frame on the bottom that housed a fingerprint sensor.

For this year’s model, the company has found a new solution to increase the size of the screen and maintain the fingerprint sensor: the double notch. Indeed, the Aquos R2 Compact has two notches.

The screen is a 5.2-inch LCD screen with a resolution of 2280 x 1080 pixels that wraps around the front camera and the fingerprint sensor. The lower frame is not as narrow as in the other three edges, but it is an improvement over the previous design.

On the other hand, this is a quite powerful smartphone, it is equipped with Snapdragon 845 and it has 4 GB of RAM, 22.6 megapixel main camera and a 2500mAh battery and it runs  Android 9 Pie.

The dual notches might not be to everyone’s taste, but this is the most high-end Android phone with a small screen and a modern bezel-less design that I’m aware of — the previous Aquos R Compact used a mid-range Snapdragon 660 processor.

As for the Aquos R3 Compact, we hope that Sharp does not give it a triple notch.

Right, had one of their phones a couple of years back and didn’t receive a security update let a lone a firmware upgrade. Never again.
