India’s Diwali festive season ended back on November 8, and during of occasion, many retailers offer discounts that can be seen during the year. Thanks to it, smartphone sales grew 26%, compared with the same period in 2017.
According to the researches at Counterpoint, Amazon and Flipkart played the major role with their respective online sale events “ Flipkart Big Billion Day” and “Amazon Great Indian Festival.” The analysts also point out that some OEM stores like mi.com, Vivo e-store, and Hi Honor helped as the online sales went up to 46% YoY.
The major player of the festival was India’s top OEM, Xiaomi, with 43% of online share and 14% offline share in the respective categories. The company once again establish its places as Indian’s market leader right above Samsung.

Another surprise of the festival was Realme, the Oppo’s subsidiary achieved a record performance for any new brand in India. It accounted for 18% of total online sales and 9% of the total smartphone sales, jumping directly to the third place overall.
Senior analyst at Counterpoint, Hanish Bhatia, said that emerging brand such as Pocophone with their Poco F1, Asus, Nokia, and OnePlus also did well online during the festival. While some old big players, like Apple and its iPhone, didn’t perform well compared with other markets.
Xiaomi once again managed a good score in the India market, that is day-after-day becoming the company’s biggest stronghold.
