ZTE’s latest patent envisages phones with in-display earpiece

If you think we have seen it all from manufacturers in their quest for creating a truly bezel-less smartphone, then you might have to have a re-think, as the coming year could bring with it smartphones that are purely all screen when viewed from the front.

And while the like of Huawei and Samsung are in for a fight as to who gets the first smartphone with camera hole in their display, ZTE on itse own is envisaging punching holes in the display as a way of fitting in the earpiece in its future devices. To implement this, ZTE in a recent patent application is looking at the chances of doing away with the upper bezel and the display notch by punching a hole on the display for the earpiece.

Accompanying images reveal the prototype ZTE phone with a rear fingerprint sensor as well as a dual rear camera. Only time can tell how ZTE plans to go about that.
