Earlier today, we announced that HMD Global has released the Android 9 Pie update for Nokia 7. This came as a surprise given that Nokia 8 has not received the update. Now, there is confirmation that the company has also released the Android 9 Pie beta update for Nokia 8. After the launch of the new Android 9 system, HMD Global promised that all its Nokia phones will adopt this new system. Prior to this, Nokia 7.1, Nokia 7 Plus and Nokia 6 (2018) have received Google’s latest Android update.
Thank you for your patience. Since you had to wait a bit longer than expected for Android 9 on your Nokia 8, we decided to make an immediate Beta Labs release. To get this update, users need to register with Nokia Beta Labs. Nokia 8 Android 9 Pie Beta update package is 1575.2 MB large and as expected from all beta updates, it may come with a lot of bugs. However, if the user finds the bugs too disturbing, he can roll back to Android Oreo.
This update brings most of the changes and features of Android 9 Pie to Nokia 8. The key changes and features include the new gesture-based navigation options, extensive UI changes, notification improvements, setup improvements, usability improvements, and more. At the London press conference in October this year, HMD promised that several phones including Nokia 8 and Nokia 8 Sirocco will be upgraded to Android 9 Pie this year. It now appears that the company is keeping its promise.
