OnePlus 6 and 6T get semi-functional port of MIUI 10

Android’s open source nature allows a vast array of possibilities, that goes from simple changes in the software framework to the development of an entirely new operating system running atop the OS core. That’s basically the case of MIUI, Xiaomi’s exclusive software that runs on its smartphones. Well, Android developers seem to not agree with the word “exclusivity” and decided to bring the software to the OnePlus 6 and 6T.

The MIUI 10 based on Android 9.0 Pie has been successfully ported to both the OnePlus recent flagships. Worth noting that all this is unofficial, and considering the difference among both Android skin frameworks, bugs are more than expected, by those courageous enough to flash the port.

Gizchina News of the week

The port is based on MIUI 8.11.23 build of Android Pie and if you want to install, you’ll need to have version 0B8 on your OnePlus 6/6T or a newer software running. Things must be done with attention and caution, and are recommended for users that are familiar with ROM flashing, modding and custom recoveries.

According to the developer of this port, mostly everything is working including the Notch and Auto-Brightness. However, the flashlight toggle, MIUI Camera, Mi Accounts, and the Auto-Rotate toggle will result in a Force close to your settings.

If you’re interested in running MIUI in your OnePlus 6/6T you’ll need to have an unlocked bootloader and a working TWRP recovery. We can’t really imagine why someone would buy a OnePlus flagship just to flash MIUI over it – “For the sake of modding” is the only thing that came to mind.
