According to the Taiwanese ‘Economic Daily’ report, the Taiwanese high-end smartphone market is occupied by the Apple iPhone. In response to this, HTC Taiwan regional general manager Chen Bajun said that HTC will bring mid-to-high-end smartphones in the first half of next year to compete with the iPhone. As for the U12 series, he said that new products will be introduced next year to lengthen its life cycle.
Earlier this year, we learned HTC’s July revenue fell 77% YOY, which was the worst record in 15 years. A couple of months later, the revenue dropped by 97%. Many hurried to bury the Taiwanese manufacturer. But HTC said it will not give up from the smartphone market, and more devices are coming in 2019. In this sense, Chen Bajun’s words are just the confirmation of the company’s plan it is following.
Gizchina News of the week
It’s been quite difficult to believe in the former smartphone king because its smartphone business was smashing up very quickly. But the November’s report showed the manufacturer has had a revenue increase of 12% QOQ. So it’s very interesting what the company will do to save the day. Xiaomi has already shown how a tech company can make a comeback. But it’s another topic of conversation because Xiaomi fell a single year only. As for HTC, it has been in this situation for a few years.
Well, since Taiwan may not issue 5G licenses until 2020, Chen Bajun pointed out that HTC will still decide on the time to launch 5G equipment according to the progress of infrastructure construction. But before a full-featured smartphone comes, first, a 5G smart video and audio sharing device will be launched. Thus, its much-popular VR series will be applied to 5G.
In terms of VR products, he said that they will introduce more content and applications with the company’s VivePort platform, and will have more cooperation with the system integration (SI) industry and channels next year.
