Today was one of the high points of the year for Huawei as the company announced its first in-screen camera smartphone – the Huawei Nova 4. The handset launch comes after Samsung’s Galaxy A8s and is meant to one-up the Korean giant as Huawei’s camera hole is the smallest of any in-screen camera smartphone. Currently, there are in total only two. This is a high point for the Nova series which aims to attract the youth populace in China.

At the launch event, Huawei said that the Nova series now encompasses more than 65 million users. The Nova series started in October 2016 and has just a handful of models including the Nova 2/Nova 2 Plus, Nova 2s and Nova 3. The latest is the Huawei Nova 4 with a triple camera. Besides the Mate series, Huawei also has the P series both of which are premium lineups in the company’s portfolio but the Nova series is called the “hero’s entertainment flagship”. The company recently also announced the Nova series outside of China, in India this year.
As for the Nova 4, selfie camera hole results in a screen-to-body ratio of 86.3%. The screen opening has a diameter of only 4.5 mm, while Samsung’s Galaxy A8s has a diameter of 6.5 mm. The Nova 4 was a perfect time for Huawei to demonstrate its technological acumen and it did not miss the opportunity.
