Qualcomm 9205 announced: a new baseband chip for IoT devices

Today, Qualcomm officially launched a new IoT LTE modem, the 9205 LTE modem chipset. Unlike the Qualcomm X-Series (such as the first 5G baseband, X50) modem that is often used in mobile phones, the Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem is specifically designed for low-power and wide-area IoT products.

Qualcomm 9205 LTE modem chipset supports products such as wearables, health monitors, smart city sensors and smart meters. In addition, it is equipped with an A7 processor with a frequency of 800MHz, and also supports global multi-mode LTE, including M1 (eMTC) and NB2 (NB-IoT) and 2G / E-GPRS. According to Qualcomm, the 9205 LTE modem chipset has been reduced by 50% compared to the previous generation, and idle power consumption has been reduced by 70 %. The 9205 LTE modem chipset will be available in 2019.
