App Annie, a mobile analytics and data company, said that global app and game downloads as well as consumer spending has reached a new records in 2018.

Based on preliminary data until December 15, App Annie predicted that global downloads on iOS and Google Play (and therefore without counting third-party stores) will exceed 113 billion in 2018, an increase of 10% compared to 2017.

Consumer spending is expected to have grown 20% year-on-year to surpass $76 billion globally. This trend is fueled by the growing of consumer spending on mobile gaming and the ever-increasing profits from in-app subscriptions.

2018 was another year of transformation for mobile devices: in these twelve months new kinds of games have become increasingly popular, thus creating new opportunities for profit and growth for developers.

According to App Annie, the best game of 2018 by worldwide consumer spend was Fate / Grand Order while the most popular app was Netflix.

The firm has released the Top Charts across both app stores for 2018, with Messenger receiving the most downloads out of all apps, excluding games, and Helix Jump being the most downloaded game.

The analysts of App Annie expect that we will see more or less the same trend in 2019, since smartphones will continue to support more complex console quality multiplayer games compared to previous years.
