Following the rumors about the Chinese screen manufacturer – BOE – allegedly buying company secrets from Samsung’s display tech (there’re still no proofs of that), the screen maker officially unveiled what appears to be their first try at the foldable display craze.
The video, in the form of GIF, was posted on Weibo by China Unicom – a Chinese telecommunications operator – with the text “At the Xinhua News Agency Chengdu New Media Conference, BOE has displayed its own flexible screen products. The folding screen mobile phone is not far away!”
In the video below we can see how BOE’s flexible screen can be folded from the middle and how it automatically switches from tablet mode to phone mode, adapting the UI to the new form factor.
Gizchina News of the week
After the “full screen” trend of 2018, foldable displays are expected to be the next big thing in the mobile industry. Many companies have indeed already shown some sort of foldable phone/tablets, such as Samsung, with other brands like ZTE, Huawei and Xiaomi teasing the same tech.
Albeit we aren’t sure foldable devices will take over the market, we’re still glad new companies like BOE are joining this very interesting new battle as far as display technology is concerned.
What do you guys think? Will BOE be able to catch up to Samsung? Let us know down below!
