A new render surfaced today for HMD’s upcoming Nokia 8.1 Plus smartphone, it shows another change in design language adopted by the Finnish company, it basically drops the top notch in favor of a new elegant punch hole camera in the 6.2-inch display. The leak comes from the usually reliable source of @OnLeaks.
Despite the “Plus” on its name, the device will basically have the same dimensions of the standard Nokia 8.1, with its 6.22-inch display and its 156.9 x 76.2 x 7.9mm size, versus the non-Plus 154.8 x 75.8 x 8mm dimensions.
The presence of an in-display camera reduces the inconvenience of a notch and opens a little more space in the display. But we don’t think this will be enough to compete with other flagships devices that are set to debut with the new technology, however, in the mid-range segment things will be a little different.
Gizchina News of the week
This device is meant to compete with the likes of Huawei Nova 4 or Samsung Galaxy A8s, while Nokia is still far from being a menace for Samsung or Huawei, the company is doing well since its arrival. But unfortunately, it still lacks a proper flagship smartphone. On the rear of the device, we expect to see the same dual Carl Zeiss camera setup that is present in other handsets from the company.
Under the hood the device should come equipped with the Snapdragon 710, 6GB of RAM and 64GB should be included in the package as well. Looking into the renders we can clearly see the glorious presence of a 3.5mm headphone jack, while a USB-C port and standard loudspeaker mark a presence in the bottom part of the handset.
The Nokia 8.1 Plus is expected to come soon, perhaps alongside Nokia’s promising Penta-camera phone the Nokia 9. While the device doesn’t come we expect to see more leaks in the coming days.
I like the look of this phone.
