HTC is not going to hurry with the release of its first 5G smartphone

According to a new report from Digitimes, HTC which completed 2018 with a 66% drop in revenue, is now developing its first 5G smartphone. But, unlike some other manufacturers, HTC will not rush to market. We will definitely not see the device at least until the middle of the year, it will be released in the second half.

HTC return this decision to the immature 5G market. However, by the second half of 2019 it is unlikely to “mature”. Whatever it was, the manufacturer is also not going to sit back. The company said that it will primarily develop 5G mobile smart hubs, although it is not very clear what it means by this.

In addition, HTC expects that with the development of the 5G market a new impetus will be given to the virtual and augmented reality market, which should positively affect the company’s business.

That sounds… vague, unlike HTC’s short-term VR product release strategy, which is much more coherent and easier to understand. It’s almost like the company is keeping its smartphones around to boost the appeal of virtual reality headsets, and not the other way around. At the end of the day, what makes us sad is we have no idea exactly what comesafter the underwhelming HTC U12+ and forgettable Desire 12s.
