Recent reports suggest that Huawei has set its eyes on the ultimate price in the smartphone market. The manufacturer now believes that it can become the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer as early as this year after announcing that it sold 206 million mobile phones in 2018. In the third quarter of 2018, the global mobile phone sales ranking released by IDC shows that Huawei shipped 52.2 million units, ranking second.
Since the third quarter of 2017, sales of Samsung mobile phones have been a bit down. The Chinese market has been a battleground for the company, the Indian market has been taken by Xiaomi, and the African market has been dominated by Transsion. The struggles of Samsung means that Huawei could have an edge to lead the smartphone market.
Gizchina News of the week
Huawei’s CEO, Yu Chengdong, said at the communication meeting this morning that Huawei’s high-end mobile phones have made great progress in the global market. For the price range above $600, the Huawei brand has a share of more than 10% in 25 countries and regions around the world. In November 2017, the share of Huawei’s high-end devices increased by 7.2%. In November last year, it reached a new high of 12%.
At present, the Mate 20 series has more than 7.5 million units shipped worldwide, and the P20 series has shipped more than 17 million units. Compared with the sales announced by Huawei on December 24 last year, in a short period of one month, the two smartphones recorded shipment increment of 1 million and 2.5 million respectively. It can be clearly seen that the gap between Samsung and Huawei is getting smaller and Huawei is willing to take advantage of Samsung’s weakness.
