The MWC is already in full swing in Barcelona where many smartphone makers have announced impressive hardware and future technologies. However, aside from these innovative phones like the 5G flagship, foldable phones from Huawei, and Samsung, there are quite a bunch of other smartphones that go unnoticed at the event, case in point – Alcatel’s latest mid-range and entry-level entry.
In what now appears to be an annual ritual, Alcatel at the ongoing MWC19 in Barcelona refreshed it mid-range and entry-level Alcatel 3 and Alcatel 1 smartphones series. However, and unlike Alcatel 2018 refresh of the same series, the brand at this year MWC has only announced three smartphones – the Alcatel 3 (2019) and Alcatel 3L, while the Alcatel 1S is the lone member of the Alcatel 1 Series.
These devices are decidedly what they are, and not positioned to roll heads, but could very much serve those on a tight budget.
Alcatel 3
The Alcatel 3 is the most cherished of the trio featuring features a 5.9-inch 19.5:9 HD+ display with water-drop notch and an 88% screen to body ratio, and beneath the display, you will find an unnamed Snapdragon octa-core chipset coupled with 4GB RAM, and 64GB internal storage, expandable via microSD. And on the reverse side, the device gets a 13MP + 5MP dual camera arrangement with LED flash, and Google Lens while the tear-notch is home to an 8MP front camera, with AI Imaging Scene Detection and not forgetting the Face Key, AR emojis, and a fingerprint sensor.

Alcatel 3l
The Alcatel 3L is no doubt a strip down variant of the Alcatel 3 (2019) featuring virtually same specs – same display size and resolution, same camera set-up, but with a less capable quad-core Snapdragon, so its performance won’t be on par with the base Alcatel 3. The 3L boots Android Oreo out of the box, but it is tipped to get upgraded to the latest OS as soon as possible. It is priced at about $160 and is supposed to hit the shelves in mid-2019.
