Along with the LG G8 ThinQ we checked out in this article, the Korean tech giant did also bring the usually more premium sibling, we’re obviously talking about the LG V50 ThinQ. The smartphone coming to the market in the following months will sport 5G connectivity, a bigger display and one more camera. Let’s learn more about it in our hands-on!
The LG V50 ThinQ is a big device and with big we mean really big. Although the display is “only” average (for nowadays standards) at 6.4-inch (P-OLED), the still too thick bezels and relatively heavy weight make it feel a bit too chunky. The very opposite of what we felt when we tried out the Samsung Galaxy S10+ which on paper sports a screen of the same size.
As if having thick bezels wasn’t enough, the notch at the top is also wider than it should be in 2019.
LG V50 ThinQ Hands-On From MWC 2019
Gizchina News of the week
Aside from that, the LG V50 ThinQ comes with best hardware you can find on the market, including a Snapdragon 855 CPU paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage (expandable through microSD).
The camera department is also a strong selling point for V50 as it features three shooters of 12MP (with standard fov and f/1.5 aperture), a 12MP (with telephoto lens) and a 16MP sensor (with ultra-wide angle lens). Meanwhile at the front we find to snappers of 5MP and 8MP resolution, with the second one featuring a wider lens.
The LG V50 ThinQ isn’t one of the slimmest phones we’ve seen at MWC 2019 but at least it does manage to cram in a large 4000mAh capacity battery with support for wireless charging.
To conclude, the V50 does look like a solid phone but there’s nothing about it that screams “buy me!”. The design is boring and outdated, the phone is fat an heavy while packing a smaller battery compared to other options such as the Samsung Galaxy S10+. So, unless there’s another Note 7 Gate with the Samsung smartphone catching fire while charging, we believe the V50 is going to be a really hard sale, even against less popular brands.
