Chinese smartphones maker -OnePlus will most certainly stuff its next flagship device with some top of the range features and technologies while also doing all it can to keep the price down south. While a whole lot of its fans have long looked out to having the firm stuff its flagship devices with the wireless charging ability, that same feature has continued to elude us.
We, however, thought we might be making headway a while back when OPPO joined the Wireless Power Consortium, indicating that a future OPPO and possibly OnePlus device will support Qi wireless charging. That hope seems that have been dashed as a new report from Cnet suggest the feature isn’t ripe yet to be included in any OnePlus products.
CEO Pete Lau is quoted through an interpreter in an interview on Monday in Barcelona as saying
“OnePlus charging is one of the best,” “Wireless charging is far inferior.”
Gizchina News of the week
While the feature is becoming widespread, especially in flagship products, the CEO comment suggests its firm has little or no confidence on wireless charging as a consumer benefit, noting that it takes a longer time to charge a device with a wireless pad than it does with the physical quick-charge plug. OnePlus might find a way out of that if only it is determined to bring the feature to its devices, given Qualcomm recent announcement of bringing its quick-charge technology to wireless charging.
OnePlus through CEO however noted that it is working on accelerating the delivery of wireless power, but apparently still not sure of a better way to implement that without generating much heat, suggesting that the feature certainly will come to OnePlus smartphones, but at what time we can’t tell.
We reported recently that the OnePlus 7 could be equipped with a display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, basing our assumption on the particularly elongated shape of the OnePlus 5G smartphone prototype present at MWC 2019. CEO Pete Lau, however, dismissed such rumor claiming he was carrying a prototype of the phone with him but declined to show it to us.
