Although the Essential Phone was one of the first smartphone with a great use of the front panel thanks to a small notch, this device failed to reap a great success.
However, despite rumors of a possible closure, the company is still working on a new smartphone, the Essential Phone 2 which could be as innovative as its predecessor.
The company has filed a patent to the WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) where it describes a phone with a camera integrated in the screen itself. We do not mean a camera hole, like the Samsung Galaxy S10, but a camera located under the screen.

The result is a smartphone with a screen that goes from side to side without the need for sliding mechanisms. Interestingly, however, the patent shows a fingerprint scanner on the back of the device, which seems somewhat strange when that could also be incorporated into the screen.
Now this is just a patent, so there is no guarantee that this phone will ever be launched. If the Essential Phone 2 lands with this design, it could be one of the most interesting phones of 2019.
