The source said that the iPhone in India should lead to a significant cost reduction because Apple will be able to reduce most of the import tax and trade tariffs. Due to lower costs, even high-end iPhones should become more affordable in the local market and attract more Indian customers. It is worth noting that India’s iPhone retail price is the highest in the world. That’s true for absolute costs in USD as well as in relative costs that look at price to income ratio.
So far, Apple based in Cupertino has only made low-end iPhones in India, especially SE and 6S.
The Indian government authorities have approved and signed the plan. The country’s minister said that Foxconn’s expansion and Wistron’s factory will be an important driving force for the ‘Made in India’ vision. As an economy, India will further benefit from creating many new quality jobs.
