Xiaomi promised to deliver an Android Pie flavor for several smartphones in the form of a new MIUI 10 update. Today the list is being increased by another member – The Xiaomi Mi 8 Lite. Previously, the Android Pie flavored MIUI was exclusive to some Chinese builds of Xiaomi’s software, however, the Poco F1 has been an exception by receiving the global update of Android 9, and now the premium midrange device joins this select group.
The Beta testing for Android 9 Pie began in December, and the Chinese Mi 8 Lite was one of the few handsets contemplated by the beta update of MIUI 10. The update is now hitting global Mi 8 Lite units carrying the MIUI 10.2.2 version and all the goodies introduced by the combination of Xiaomi’s proprietary skin and Google’s Pie version of Android.
Gizchina News of the week
The handset is equipped with a Snapdragon 660 and has either 4GB or 6GB of RAM. The handset brings a neat 24MP selfie shooter and a 12MP+5MP rear setup. It’s fairly-cheap when we consider the premium look and overall specifications. Now with Android Pie, the handset is even more interesting – However, the recent release of the Redmi Note 7 Pro in China and its upcoming availability in other markets, may pretty much cannibalize the sales of the older models. Of course, that’s mere speculation at the moment.
