Xiaomi turns 9-year-old today, celebrates with Mi Fan Festival

Consumer electronics maker Xiaomi Corporation has turned 9 year old today as company founders celebrate with a kick off of the Mi Fan Festival today on April 6th. On this same day in 2010, ex-Kingsoft CEO Lei Jun founded Xiaomi with 14 people in a small room in Beijing. The initial focus was to create a custom ROM based on Google’s Android. That’s what Xiaomi’s “Mi” logo also stands for which is Mobile Internet. It means that Xiaomi is at its core a software company that later branched out to hardware.

Xiaomi announced its first smartphone as the Mi One phone. The company showed its mettle with a very solid value-for-money offering and it showed promise for a very aggressive growth era coming in the years in China as well as abroad in India. The Mi One phone was simply a jumping board to other branches of hardware as the company also started making smart TVs, Wi-Fi routers, tablets and a lot of smart home products as of 2019.

The company is also a powerhouse in India currently in the mid-range segment as its Redmi Note and Redmi series have become household names in the country.
