Samsung officially confirms the Galaxy J and the Galaxy A series merger

SAMSUNG GALAXY A50

Even though its performance in the premium segment hasn’t been quite affected, Samsung is facing stiff competition from smaller brands especially China’s Xiaomi which — as per some analysts has overtaken Samsung in the crowded Indian market. The Korean giant is well aware of this, and its only bet is to pull out the stops in India if it wants to avoid harsh lessons meted out in China considering that India is too big a market to lose to rivals.

The Galaxy J series accounted for a large share of the brands budget segment in markets in India, but things have to change if the Korean giant must turn things around, and this has prompted it to consider a change in operating strategy with the repositioning of the Galaxy A series. Samsung has already tested the water with a couple of devices in its new Galaxy A series, and they appear to be doing well. Unlike the company’s Galaxy J series which was considered overpriced in relations to its rivals, the new Galaxy A series are well priced to take on competition offering top notched features such as triple rear cameras, in-display fingerprint sensor, and Infinity AMOLED display in the sub-Rs 20,000 (~$350) price segment.

Samsung has resolved to churn out at least one device in the new series in the India market for the next six months, and now confirming our earlier speculations, the brand is finally’ killing the old Galaxy J series of Smartphone to be replaced with the new Galaxy A Smartphones. The confirmation comes through Samsung Malaysia’s official YouTube channel in the form of a promotional video for the recently-launched Galaxy A30 and Galaxy A50. The promo video specifically says the Galaxy J series is now the new Galaxy A series, so this is a sort of merger, though the brand has since ceased releasing new devices in the J series. The Galaxy J8 only recently got a taste of Android Pie via an update, so it is not ending support for the series immediately.
