Today, Qualcomm and Apple announced an agreement to lift all litigation and they also signed a cooperation agreement. The settlement includes Apple paying Qualcomm an undisclosed fee and a six-year technology license agreement effective from April 1, 2019. Now, it’s almost certain that the expected 5G iPhone will use Qualcomm’s chip.
Wang Teng, the product director of Xiaomi, sent his congratulatory message to both companies as he acknowledges that the financial situation of Apple & Qualcomm will rise again. Qualcomm’s market share price in China soared to by 23%, its highest ever since 1999. Although Apple and Qualcomm have reconciled, it is estimated that the 5G version of the iPhone will wait until the second half of next year and this means that it will lose a lot of shares.
Gizchina News of the week
At present, many Android players have already launched 5G smartphones. We have the likes of Samsung Galaxy S10 5G version, Huawei Mate X, OPPO Reno 5G version, Xiaomi MIX 3 5G version, ZTE AXON 10 Pro, Lenovo Z6 Pro, and other 5G flagships. This means that Apple 5G iPhone will be at least one year behind the competition.
However, we must acknowledge that 5G technology has not been fully commercialized. In fact, its full commercialization is should be complete sometime next year. For now, Android’s 5G phones are quite expensive and we now that Apple has many “loyal” fans. All these suggest that Apple will still have a good chance with its 5G iPhone if it arrives next year.
