2018 was a great year with regards to smartphone innovation as we saw many Chinese companies getting noticed globally for their new designs advancements in the segment. But if you were wondering which smartphones were the most popular in terms of sales in 2018, this Counterpoint research gives you a good idea of just that.

Talking first about international markets, Apple has impressively usurped all the first four slots with the iPhone X taking top honours followed by the iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, and iPhone 7 respectively. Xiaomi makes an appearance on fifth with the super affordable Redmi 5A followed by the Samsung Galaxy S9 at sixth. Two more iPhones sit on the 7th and 8th position respectively followed by two Samsung handsets that complete the top ten. Apple has claimed six positions in the graph which is an impressive achievement despite the relatively high prices the company asks for its smartphones.
Coming to the local Chinese market, the OPPO R15 emerges the topper followed by the iPhone X. Two more OPPO handsets – OPPO A5, OPPO A83 lay claim to the fourth and third position followed by the Vivo X21 on the fifth. What’s most peculiar is the absence of both Huawei and sub-brand Honor which command big sales in the country.
