Today, the Apple Watch Series 4 was named one of the 2019 annual display industry products by The Society for Information Display (SID).
The annual Display Industry Awards recognize innovative products in the display industry. The award is given to ‘display products with the most significant technological advances and/or outstanding features.’ The Apple Watch Series 4 can be described with these words.
The Apple Watch Series 4 won this award because its OLED display area is 30% larger than the previous generation and it didn’t affect the size of the device. In addition, it uses LTPO’s new display technology with pressure sensing to reduce power consumption and extend battery life.

SID believes: ‘While retaining the original signature design, the fourth-generation Apple Watch has been refined, combining new hardware and software enhancements into a singular, unified form.
The challenge for designers was to make the display bigger without noticeably increasing the size of the case or compromising the battery life. Narrower borders enable a viewing area that’s more than 30 percent larger, while a new display technology called LTPO improves power efficiency, helping users get through the day on a single charge.’
SID’s selection covers products that can be purchased in 2018. Last year, the iPhone X and the iPad Pro won the ‘Best Display of the Year’ award.
Other award-winning products include Samsung’s “wall” modular microLED 8K display and Sony’s Crystal LED display system. In addition, Lenovo’s Yoga Book C930 dual-screen notebook, SCHOTT’s RealView high-refractive-index glass chip, and other amazing products are on the list.
