Now, in preparation for the release of its first 5G enabled smartphone, HMD Global and chipset maker Qualcomm has inked a strategic agreement concerning a 5G patent that offers the Nokia phone maker the royalty-bearing patent licenses to develop, manufacture and sell branded 5G devices. With HMD Globa joining the train, Qualcomm confirms that it now has over 35 5G licensees and continues to expand and solidify licensing business.
Samsung mobile, LG Mobile, Xiaomi, and a few other phone makers already pushed out their first 5G-enabled devices, most of which are premium and expensive devices, however, unlike these phone makers whose devices are over the $1,000 price mark, Nokia’s first market-ready 5G-enabled smartphone is likely to be a solid mid-ranger that will be priced a little over or under $700 price mark.
