According to news site Letsgodigital, Chinese phone maker Vivo recently registered two new mobile phone patents, one of which looks like a rabbit.
The patent was submitted to WIPO (World Intellectual Property Office) by Vivo Mobile Communications in mid-2018. The patent was then released on May 14, 2019 in the Global Design Database. In order not to sacrifice the space inside the screen, the design has put the camera and the sensor have on what we could call an external notch, which is totally different from nowadays’ smartphone design.
Gizchina News of the week
The two patented sketches show the two Vivo smartphones both of which have notches on top. The first has a more circular shape bezel in which cameras, sensors and speaker grill sit, meanwhile the second patent shows two little bezels each with camera and some proximity sensors (we assume), meanwhile we aren’t able to see the speaker grill.
In addition to Vivo, also Xiaomi and Huawei seem to have registered similar “external-notch” mobile phone patents but we somewhat doubt this design will ever be adopted by mainstream phone makers. That said, Chinese sources it may actually be applied to more budget friendly devices where a real and expensive “full screen” design isn’t an option.
