After exploring the premium segment of the market with the Google Pixel 2 and Google Pixel 3 series, the Mountain View giant has decided to return to the middle range, launching the Google Pixel 3a series in the recent weeks, characterized by a more affordable price, a great attention to the photographic sector and some particular choices on materials.
The most obvious is the choice of plastic, which replaces metal and glass for the back cover and side frame, and this could turn the nose upside down for those looking for more refined solutions. Who better than the durability test, the famous test invented by the YouTuber JerryRigthing, can provide us with a reliable response.
The test shows that the front glass, for which Google chose Dragontrail instead of Gorilla Glass is durable, and that the frame, made of very hard plastic, does not fold. Scratches actually become much less visible, if not backlit or with a careful look, and the bend test demonstrates how a well-designed plastic solution can stand up as a glass/metal solution, perhaps even better.

We leave you to the video of the test from which Google Pixel 3a emerges victorious:
It is worth to mention that the Pixel 3a and 3a XL have been subjected to the usual teardown by iFixit, giving them an overall score of 6/10, so they are easy to repair.
Google Pixel 3a and Pixel 3a XL proved easy to open with classic work tools, even without the use of heat, which would have made it even easier. It is immediately clear therefore why the two new models are not waterproof. The first part of the job is to remove the OLED screen, which can be easily replaced and connected to the motherboard from a single connector. The display of both models, denying the rumors that spoke of gOLED, is a Samsung panel.
