Smartphone sales in Europe have declined in the first quarter of 2019, but Huawei is to surprise positively with a very important increase in its market share. Let’s see some numbers.
According to data released by IDC, deliveries of new smartphones in Europe in the period of January-March 2019 are down by 2.74% on an annual basis and reach 53.5 million units. During this period the two Chinese producers of the “moment”, namely Xiaomi and Huawei, have grown a lot, with the latter having in particular seen a real boom.
In fact, Samsung delivered 15.7 million smartphones in Western, Central and Eastern Europe, with a 6.82% drop on an annual basis; the South Korean manufacturer maintains the leadership, but sees itself pressed by Huawei, which ranks second with 13.5 million units and an increase of 66.13%, which leads to a market share of 25%.

In third place, we find Apple which collapses in numbers and reaches 7.8 million iPhones delivered (-22.73%), while in fourth place it grows by 33% Xiaomi, with 2.9 million smartphones, which brings down to fifth place HMD (-32% with 2.2 million units).
Huawei is therefore the company that has seen the greatest growth in Europe in this first quarter of 2019, but as we have already seen, it will have to deal with the US ban affair and review its leadership plans.
