According to IDC’s latest report, China is not the only market for Apple iPhone to encounter sales difficulties.

As IDC’s latest data shows, in the first quarter of 2019, Apple iPhone shipments to Europe, the Middle East, and Africa decreased by 2.4 million units compared to the same period in 2018, a year-on-year decrease of 22.7%. Apple shipped a total of 7.8 million smartphones to these regions, compared with 10.2 million in the same period last year. As a result, Apple’s market share dropped from 18.5% to 14.74%.

However, it is worth noting that although the number has dropped, the average selling price of the iPhone has increased. This should offset some of the decrease in revenue from the reduction in the number of iPhones.

Apple is not the only phone manufacturer to face the challenge. Say, Samsung’s business in the above-mentioned regions fell 6.8%. Huawei was the biggest winner in the quarter. Its shipments increased by 66.1% to 13.5 million units.

Xiaomi and HMD (Nokia) are on the list as well. As for the former, it shipped over 2.9 million units that account for 5.5% of market share, year on year growth of 33.26%. HMD has showcased quite interesting progression too. It shipped over 2.2 million units to these regions. It’s equivalent to 4.2% of the market share. But on the other hand, it’s a year on year decrease by (-)32.64%.

In total, all manufacturers have shipped 53.5 million units. Thus, the overall smartphone market decline is reflected in these regions as well. In comparison to the last year’s same period, the number of shipped smartphones decreased by 2.74%.
