HMD Global CMO quits, joins epassi

Pekka Rantala, HMD’s chief marketing officer has put in his papers for a new Job with an epayment firm. Pekka Rantala who has been the CMO for over a period of three years now, and is now quitting for further career pursuit with epassi.

While the Nokia phone maker has yet to acknowledge the decision, a press release from the mobile payment company, epassi has however confirmed that Pekka Rantala will join the company as one of CEO and one of its owner starting October 2019. He has mentioned that his interest in entrepreneurship made him take the decision of quitting HMD Global to join ePass.

Pekka was until his appointment as CMO in 2019 CEO of Rovio Entertainment prior to joining HMD and spent seventeen years in Nokiaā€™s mobile phone business.

ā€œI was interested in ePassi mainly because it is an excellent product and service and has all the conditions for rapid growth and internationalization. My interest in entrepreneurship has grown over the last few years, and becoming an entrepreneur brings me to my new job, ā€ says Pekka.

ā€As an industry, mobile payment is on the verge of tremendous growth, and ePassi is the forerunner in this transformation. At heart, I am a globaliser of Finnish brands and have e.g. twice been part of putting the Nokia phones on the world map. Now it is time to utilize my expertise in ePassiā€™s international growth. Itā€™s an exciting challenge, and I also expect to be learning a lot in this new positionā€, Rantala added.

ePass is a Finnish company with expertise in the mobile payments solution and is used by tens of thousands of service providers and hundreds of thousands of consumers in Europe.
