At a London launch event earlier in May, Huawei unveiled the Mate 20X 5G, a 5G variant of the Mate 20X. The device could be heading to China in the coming weeks as it is already securing necessary certifications in the country. The Huawei Mate 20X 5G first secured 3C approval earlier this month, and yesterday came the news that it has received China’s first license for 5G end-devices. And now, the device has appeared on TENAA’s database suggesting it could launch officially soonest.
The Huawei Mate 20X 5G is a dual SIM enabled device, and the only 5G compatible smartphone at the moment that supports both standalone and non-standalone 5G networks. Speaking of Dual SIM connectivity, Huawei earlier this week confirmed that the device cannot click to the 5G network on both SIM – only the main SIM can connect to the ultra-fast 5G network, while the secondary SIM connects to 4G LTE.
Gizchina News of the week
Aside from a cut in the battery size from 5000mAh to a 4,200mAh cell, the Mate 20X 5G shares the same specs with the standard Mate 20X, including – the powerful Kirin 980 chipset coupled with the Balong 5000 5G chipset, 6GB of RAM, and 128GB of expandable storage via the proprietary NM cards up to 256GB. Onboard graphics are handled via the Mali-G76MP10 GPU.
The standard Mate 20X currently retails at 4,499 Yuan ($650) in China, so perhaps the 5G variant will sell under the $800 price point.
