In the last period, one of the most popular features among smartphone manufacturers is the DC Dimming, already seen on board flagship phones such as Huawei P30 Pro, OnePlus 7 and 7 Pro, OPPO Reno and Xiaomi Mi 9. This is a necessary feature to prevent eye strain and now this feature also arrives on board Vivo iQOO, the brand’s gaming smartphone.
Vivo iQOO has received support for DC Dimming: what it is and how it works
In the past few hours, the Chinese version of the device has received the update to version 1.17.4, weighing about 407 MB. The new firmware introduces the support to DC Dimming available within the settings of the display. But how does this feature work and what is it precisely?
Gizchina News of the week
In a nutshell, this is a new technology that goes hand in hand with OLED panels, now increasingly present in the new smartphones. Compared to the “past”, now the devices that mount this type of display are increasing a lot and they have also appeared in the middle range.
But one of the problems associated with OLED displays concerns eye strain related to PWM Dimming technology and its limitations (and the flicker effect at low brightness, causing fatigue and headaches to some users). For this reason, the DC Dimming has become necessary: this feature allows to lower the brightness of the panel by decreasing the amount of electric current passing through the display itself. A safe and effective way that does not generate flicker and that is spreading like wildfire.
