Huawei HongMeng OS website goes live

It is now known that Chinese manufacturer, Huawei, is working on its own operating system which will be called “HongMeng OS” (at least in China). The company significantly increased the pace of work on the system after the US government banned Huawei from doing business with American companies. Although, the ban is not fully active for now, Huawei HongMeng OS is on its way. Recently, the company released an invitation for developers to join in and build the system. Now, there are indications that the “official” website for the Huawei HongMeng OS is now active.

If you are a Huawei fan, don’t be too excited yet, there is no confirmation that this is the “official” HongMeng website. In fact, there are many reasons that make us suspect that this website may just be a third-party introduction by HongMeng enthusiasts. These includes

Huawei HongMeng OS

  1. The URL of this website is https://hmxt.org/ – We would have expected that the official website of the system will be a little more direct with its name
  2. The website has nothing new – all its content have come to light
  3. Its content are rather sketchy and centers on HongMeng system technical white paper, development version download of the OS (no download available), and Ark compiler.

Gizchina News of the week

As an introduction to the HongMeng system, the website reads “Hongmeng OS is a self-owned operating system developed by Huawei. Huawei has planned to develop an operating system since 2012, code-named “Hongmeng”. It is expected to officially release the Hongmeng system by the end of 2019. Open up mobile phones, computers, tablets, TVs, cars, and smart wearers to unify these devices into one operating system. The system is designed for next-generation technology and is compatible with all Android applications and all web applications. If the Android application is recompiled, the running performance is improved by more than 60% on the Huawei OS operating system.”

All these are already known. However, if this is the official website for the HongMeng system then it may be a place to get an update for the new system. As of the time of writing this report, an email has been sent to the contact email on the website “service@hmxt.org”.
