U.S.

Huawei’s CEO, Ren Zhengfei, recently accepted a 90-minute interview with Yahoo Finance. The major subject of discussion is the company’s relationship with the US. According to him, the US attitude seems to be moderate but there is no substantial change. However, Huawei has become calmer. Ren Zhengfei talked tough when he said that “even if the US companies all shut down Huawei, the company would not stop production in the future…not even for one day”

Ren Zhengfei

Ren Zhengfei believes that without Qualcomm, Huawei can still survive, after all, its own chips will be better and better as time goes by, but the company is still committed to continuing to maintain a partnership. As for Intel, Ren Zhengfei expressed a similar view. Intel can continue to supply Huawei to maintain its leading position, and we will continue to purchase products from it. As of now, the US is still working out modalities on how to fully resume business with Huawei.

He further said that Huawei’s assessment found that it is fully capable of getting rid of its dependence on US core devices and has decided to reduce its reliance on non-core devices of US companies. However, he believes that in extreme situations, it will take time to convert and find the most suitable alternative.

Ren Zhengfei on Futurewei, 5G & US Allegations

In addition, Huawei’s CEO confirmed the news of Huawei’s North American R&D company, Futurewei’s, layoffs. Originally, Huawei planned to invest $600 million but the US sanctions did not allow the deal to pull through. On Huawei’s 5G, he said: “the stronger the product, the lower the risk of the product”. On the allegations by the US, Ren Zhengfei believes that the United States obeys the rule of law and he hopes to submit a fair ruling. Huawei will now have to wait for the US government to resume business with US companies.
