With the advent of gaming smartphones last year, there arrived superior displays with higher 90Hz refresh rates. This year, companies are stepping up their game with 120Hz displays and it seems Apple also wants one for its 2020 iPhones. According to a tweet by the otherwise reliable Ice universe, Apple is considering a switchable 60Hz/120Hz refresh rate screen on the iPhone in 2020 and is currently in talks with Samsung and LG. Right now, ASUS has confirmed a 120Hz display for its upcoming ROG Phone 2 and there’s the Razer Phone 2 that is commercially available.

The iPad Pro 2018 also has a ProMotion 120Hz display and even 2017 iPads have been using the technology, but if this news is true, it will be the first time Apple uses the tech for its iPhones. The tweet also mentions that Apple wants an OLED display and hence the talks with Samsung and LG. The Razer Phones have an LCD panel and the ROG Phone 2 might very well have an AMOLED display.
For now, nothing is set in stone, not to mention it’s very early to be speculating on a phone that’s going to launch by the end of 2020 as a lot could change by then. It’s also being rumoured that the 2020 iPhones will have a notch-less design as well as the first 5G chips for Apple handsets.
