Xiaomi patent a smartphone with four-rear cameras and a slide design

Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, is one of the leading smartphone vendors in the world. The competition in China and India is getting tougher thus OEMs need innovations to make a meaningful impact. While we wait for Xiaomi to release the Xiaomi Mi MIX 4 later this year, some of its patent application just hit the web. According to the latest Xiaomi patent, the company is working on a smartphone with four cameras at the rear. These cameras are arranged on the rear within a circle (similar to what we have on upcoming Nokia 7.2). However, the patent seems to have multiple options for the placement of the flash. The LED flash could be outside the main circle which has the four camera sensors or in-between the four camera sensors (could also be beneath them).

There is no physical fingerprint sensor on the rear of this smartphone. Thus it is safe to say that it will probably use an on-screen fingerprint sensor. As for the front design, this patent shows a device with a slide structure. Xiaomi has only one smartphone with this structure and that is the Xiaomi Mi MIX 3. Could this patent be for the Mi MIX 3 successor – Xiaomi Mi MIX 4? That is a question that begs an answer.

On the slide, we can also see that this smartphone comes with dual front camera setup. There is also a USB Type-C, a speaker grill and a microphone underneath this phone. Besides the sketches, nothing else is known about this device. It looks likely that this is the Mi MIX 4 coming in September/October as an August launch for the MIX 4 has been ruled out by Xiaomi. We expect to see new features on this flagship like the 64MP camera, higher fast charge and so on
