Xiaomi Mi 6 stable Android Pie update now rolling out

Xiaomi Mi 6

It’s not every day that a company releases a massive update for a device with more than two years of existence. However, that’s exactly what is happening with the Xiaomi Mi 6. The 2017 flagship debuted with Android 7.1.1 Nougat, and today is receiving the stable release that updates it to Android 9 Pie.

That’s the second major Android update that arrives for the handset. It’s interesting to see Xiaomi being loyal to users who still are rocking a Mi 6. The first beta of Android Pie reached the device back in April. Today seems that the build finally reached a stable state and is ready for all users.

The update arrives as MIUI 10.4.1.0 and weighs in at 1.6GB download. The usual rules for OTA updates are here as well. It may take a few days to reach all eligible unit of Xiaomi Mi 6 in the market. However, impatient users are well covered, since Xiaomi already uploaded the ROM on its repository. You can head to the source linked below for a direct download link accompanied by installation instructions.

Since Mi 6 already was running MIUI 10, although it was an Oreo-based build. Considering this, don’t expect any visual changes with the arrival of Pie. All the goodies introduced with this update are under the hood. That’s how Xiaomi operates, it delivers yearly MIUI updates with visual changes and new features for its handsets despite their different Android versions.

That was quite a run for the handset released back in 2017. Now, we could say that this might be the end of the road for the Mi 6. Despite this, Xiaomi should keep up and update it to MIUI 11 and even MIUI 12 in the future no matter the Android version.
