The development of 5G worldwide is consistently growing and OEMs are now striving to release more 5G devices. As of now, Xiaomi has one 5G smartphone which is the Mi MIX 3 5G version. Although there are reports that the upcoming Mi MIX 4 will have a 5G version, it may take some time to arrive. According to the latest hint from Xiaomi product director, Wang Teng, Xiaomi’s second 5G mobile phone will be in the Mi 9 series. His latest statement suggests that it could either be the Xiaomi Mi 9 5G or Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G.

With regards to the pricing, Wang Teng said: “everyone has an expectation that 5G mobile phones are a little expensive now”. This suggests that the upcoming Xiaomi 5G smartphone will not be cheap either. At present, the available 5G mobile phones are ZTE AXON 10 Pro 5G version and Huawei Mate 20X 5G version. These phones sells for 4999 yuan ($710 – 6GB+128GB) and 6199 yuan ($880 – 8GB+256GB) respectively. According to the pricing strategy of Xiaomi, the price of this 5G phone should not be higher than 6199 yuan ($880).
For now, the cheapest 5G smartphone is temporarily iQOO Pro 5G. In view of this, Mi 9 5G version should be between 4500 ($639) and 5500 yuan ($780). However, if the Pro model is used, it may sell for over 6000 yuan ($852).
