It’s not a secret anymore that HTC will be returning to India after stopping activities in the country back in July last year. In order to plant more anticipation over its return, the company teased a new smartphone via its Twitter account. The small teaser shows a few of the company’s history and design changes since 2007. In the end, we can clearly see a smartphone sketch with a waterdrop notch ready for a 2019 launch.
The handset in question apparently will be the rumored HTC WildFire. We saw a couple of renders in July revealing a smartphone that fit on 2019 standards with small bezels and a waterdrop notch. Moving to the back there is a dual-camera array and a beautiful glossy gradient finish. The dual-camera array comprises a 16MP + 5MP sensor, however, the function of this secondary camera is still unknown. Worth noting that there is a fingerprint scanner also on the rear. So while this is a phone for 2019, don’t expect an in-display fingerprint scanner.

Moreover, the handset boasts a 6.2-inch display with just 1520×720 pixels of resolution. Since this is a mid-range handset we believe that it is just a standard IPS LCD panel. HTC WildFire boasts the aging Helio P23 SoC paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of Internal Storage. It will come with Android 9 Pie and will be fueled by a 3,500mAh battery.
The rumored specs are far from impressive, even for the mid-range category, but still, it’s interesting to see that HTC isn’t giving up of the Indian market. The new smartphone will face strong competition dominated by the likes of Xiaomi and Realme. If HTC wants to succeed in India with these specs, it will need to wisely choose a price point for its new handset.
Worth noting that along with WildFire, rumors also indicate that HTC has a WildFire Plus variant and an HTC E1 on its sleeves. We wouldn’t be surprised to see the Taiwanese firm unveiling all them in the Indian stronghold.
