The Huawei Developers Conference (HDC) held between August 9th to 11th. At the conference, the company unveiled a couple of devices and technologies including the Honor Smart Screen and its new Harmony OS. While the likes of Harmony OS and Honor Smart Screen took the center stage, the company also released some technologies quietly. Here are the top 5 Huawei technologies quietly announced at HDC 2019.
- Millimeter-wave technology
The technology only allows remote control with gestures. In addition, it also measures distance and tests the user’s heartbeat and breath capacity.
- Low-latency projection screen
This technology can reduce the projection delay to 60ms. This is quite different from the Miracast technology which is currently on smart screens.
- High-precision local positioning technology
The high-precision local positioning does not need adjustments. With the aid of the surrounding wireless signals, the device’s own frequency system and algorithm are good for positioning. Furthermore, the positioning accuracy is within 1-3 meters.

At the inception of the on-screen fingerprint technology, it was only possible with OLED displays. However, over the past few months, we have seen a couple of LCD displays with this technology. At HDC 2019, Huawei showcased an LCD display with an on-screen fingerprint sensor.
- 5G millimeter wave communication
Huawei’s upcoming Mate X highlight is its foldable display and 5G network. The 5G network uses Huawei’s Balon 5000 baseband. In addition, the maximum speed of the 5G millimeter wave communication is 6.5Gbps.
