According to recent reports, HMD Global has decided to extend the update support period for some of its smartphones. According to the company, Nokia 3, 5, 6, and 8 will continue to get security updates until 2020. Recall that the Nokia 3, 5, 6, and 8 were released in 2017 and as per HMD Global standard, they are supposed to stop getting updates by 2019. This does not mean that these smartphones will get the Android Q update because the support could be the regular monthly updates.
However, subsequent security updates for these models will no longer be monthly updates, but quarterly updates. In addition, Nokia 2 users will complete its quarterly updates in November this year. Indian and US versions of Nokia 6 will its last update in October this year.
HMD Global is very specific about its support for smartphones. The company specifically states that its Android phones will get only 2 years of support. However, those smartphones which are part of its Android One program will get 3 years support. Nokia users will be quite happy that the company is offering more that it promised.
