According to recent reports from Chinese media, HMD Global is building its first flagship 5G smartphone. This smartphone will arrive in 2020. According to the reports, HMD Global, which produces Nokia phones said that it is on its 5G smartphone. Regarding the price, Juho Sarvikas, chief product officer of HMD, said that Nokia’s 5G phones will be about half that of current 5G phones.
Presently, 5G smartphones come with a price tag above $800. Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G version sells for $1300 while LG V50 ThinQ 5G is about $1000. However, the iQOO Pro 5G smartphones remain the cheapest and it will be available for about $650. There are reports that Nokia’s upcoming 5G mobile phone will sell between $500 and $650.

Concerning its 5G smartphone, Sarvikas said: “as we enter the market, we can bring 5G into a cheaper market; I hope that our price will be half the price of the current 5G mobile phone”. However, HMD will face fierce competition, and companies such as Motorola and Jiajia intend to launch cheaper 5G mobile phones next year.
Presently, 5G in the US is not universal. For example, if you buy a Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G mobile phone at Verizon, if you want to switch to Sprint, you need to purchase the Sprint version of the Samsung Galaxy Note 10+ 5G. As of now, it is not clear when this will be resolved but we expect it to be next year.
