At the IFA 2019, Qualcomm announced the expansion of its 5G mobile platform products. This will happen through the Snapdragon 6 Series, 7 Series, and 8 Series. The company plans to scale up the global commercial process of 5G in 2020.

The chipmaker sais more than 150 5G terminal designs have adopted Qualcomm Technologies’ 5G solution. In fact, all these designs have been already released or are under development. The broader product portfolio will support global features and frequency bands. It is expected to provide a 5G experience for more than 2 billion smartphone users.
Alex Katouzian, senior vice president and general manager of mobile services at Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., said:
‘Qualcomm Technologies delivered the world’s first and most advanced 5G mobile platform including the first comprehensive Modem-RF System to accelerate 5G commercialization in 2019. And we are uniquely positioned to accelerate 5G commercialization to scale globally with our OEM and operator customers with expanded mobile platform offerings across our Snapdragon 8 Series, 7 Series and 6 Series in 2020.’

The broader Snapdragon 5G mobile platform portfolio supports all key regions and major frequency bands. They include millimeter and sub-6 GHz bands, TDD and FDD modes, 5G multi-SIM, dynamic spectrum sharing, and independent (SA) and Non-independent (NSA) networking modes.
Qualcomm also said that it will uncover more information on the next-generation Snapdragon 8 Series 5G mobile platform later this year.
5G In Snapdragon 7 Series
Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 7 Series 5G mobile platform will be a system-on-chip (SoC). It will integrate 5G functions and support all major regions and frequency bands. 12 of the world’s leading OEMs and brands plan to adopt the new SND7 Series platform in their future 5G mobile terminals. Those brands include OPPO, Realme, Redmi, VIVO, Motorola, HMD Global, and LG Electronics.
The Snapdragon 7 Series 5G integrated mobile platform began to sample customers in the second quarter of 2019. The company will continue to accelerate the commercial deployment of the platform in the Q4 2019. We are waiting for those terminals to be available soon. The company will announce full details of the platform later this year.
5G In Snapdragon 76 Series
Qualcomm brings the Snapdragon 6 Series 5G mobile platform to popularize the 5G experience in a wider range. It is consistent with the deployment plans of many operators that bring 5G coverage globally. The terminals sporting the Snapdragon 6 Series 5G mobile platform should be commercially available in the second half of 2020.
