Apple will struggle in the Chinese smartphone market next year

Apple iPhone 11 series

A couple of days ago, American manufacturing giant, Apple, released the latest iPhone 11 series. These smartphones lack any real innovation but it remains a delight to Apple’s loyal fans. However, analysts believe that Apple will struggle in the Chinese smartphone market in 2020. This is because of the high rate of 5G adoption. If we will see a 5G iPhone, that device is about 12 months away. Analysts believe that the 5G demand will increase rapidly in the coming months and Apple will be completely shut out. This means that it will be difficult for it to retain its status in the Chinese market.

Gizchina News of the week

According to IDC’s report of Q2 2019, Apple’s ranks fifth in the Chinese phone market (by market share). The likes of Huawei, Vivo, Oppo, Xiaomi and Samsung have launched or plan to launch 5G mobile phones in the near future. Thus, Apple will be behind these brands in the 5G sector of the smartphone market. According to Counterpoint Research, as China’s 5G coverage expands and suppliers offer more models, the smartphone replacement cycle will begin in the first quarter of 2020. This means that Apple will miss the first six months of the cycle. It is estimated that approximately 90 million 5G mobile phones will be shipped in China in 2020. This means that the 5G phone market has a lot to offer and the earliest brands to adopt 5G will get a good chunk of the market.
