Huawei Mate 30 RS (Porsche Design) unveiled with Kirin 990, 12GB RAM, Premium design and jaw-dropping price

Huawei Mate 30 RS

Huawei took the wraps off Huawei Mate 30 and Mate 30 Pro handsets today, and just as expected, there’s a new Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30. The new handset carries the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS moniker, that is a unique name, right? Of course, it is basically a Huawei Mate 30 Pro 5G with different design and interface. For that reason, we’ll see the same Kirin 990 with 5G integration, Quad-Camera on the back and 4,500mAh battery.

Furthermore, the Porsche Design Huawei Mate 30 RS comes in the traditional style that we expect to associate with Porsche Design Huawei phones. That translates into a leather-bound rear panel with a vertical glass stripe that carries the quad-camera. The color choice, however, is smaller with just Black or Red. Apart from the design, the more attractive parts of the Mate 30 RS are the chipset and the Quad-Camera setup.

The Kirin 990 5G is built on a 7nm+ EUV process and has a built-in 5G modem. The chip consists in 2x Cortex-A76 running at up to 2.86GHz, 2x Cortex-A76 at up to 2.36GHz and another 4x Cortex-A55, running at up to 1.95GHz. Worth noting that those opting for this premium variant will enjoy 12GB of RAM. The Mate 30 Pro, in counterpart, is limited to 8GB of RAM.

The quad-camera setup on the rear comprises a 40MP f/1.6 regular wide camera from the P30 Pro (with a large 1/1.7″ type sensor), a new 40MP f/1.8 ultrawide camera (also using a large 1/1.54″ type sensor), an 8MP f/2.4 3x telephoto camera and a 3D Time of Flight module for AR and blur effects. Selfie lovers are served with a 32MP snapper which captures up to 1080p videos. There’s also a 3D camera that drives the Face ID functionality.

Up the front, the Porsche Design variant boasts a 6.53-inch OLED panel with the same Waterfall effect. Huawei calls it the Horizon Display. Fueling the house, we have a 4,500mAh battery that supports 40W wired and 27W wireless charging. Huawei still needs to deliver all the detailed information about the availability of this particular variant. However, we know that it will cost €2,095 (~$2315) in its sole 12GB+512GB configuration when it launches.
