Xiaomi’s 5G phone will use a new build material combination

Chinese manufacturing giant, Xiaomi, will announce two smartphones on September 24th. We expect the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G as well as the Xiaomi Mi MIX Alpha. While the former is certainly a commercial device, the exact status of the Mi MIX Alpha is not known. Today, a new poster claims that Xiaomi’s 5G phone will adopt a new material and technology. The company claims to “breakthrough your imagination again” which implies that this new build material must be interesting.

It said “Xiaomi has never stopped exploring mobile phone technology and materials. The company used the stainless steel metal frame on the Mi 4 while the Mi Note explored the 3D curved glass back cover. Xiaomi Mi 5 brought art-like ceramics while the Mi MIX is still proud of its unibody ceramic build. Xiaaomi now asks “In the 5G era, what other materials and techniques are worth looking forward to?” The poster seems to answer the question with the phrase “September 24, #Xiaomi 5G new product conference# See ”

Interestingly, the poster has three possible build materials. These includes

  • Ti – Titanium (Titanium Alloy)
  • SiO2 – Silica (Glass or Ceramic)
  • Al2O3 –  Alumina (Perhaps Sapphire)

How will Xiaomi’s 5G phone combine these three materials? We could see a titanium alloy middle frame, a ceramic backplate, and a sapphire lens. Of course, we will have to wait a few days to see how Xiaomi intends to “breakthrough our imagination”.
